Shadelands Property Business Improvement District, PBID

 

In August 2014, the Walnut Creek City Council approved the creation of the Shadelands Property Business Improvement District, PBID, a unified group of Shadelands property owners who will direct the future of Shadelands to enhance opportunities for economic growth and park rejuvenation.

 

  • In February 2015, Shadelands launched the free Pleasant Hill BART shuttle, County Connection #7 (easily identified by the branded Shadelands bus wrap), which serves Shadelands commuters and neighborhood riders.
  • In March 2016, the Walnut Creek City Council adopted major zoning amendments, proposed by the Shadelands Steering Committee, allowing greater zoning flexibility.
  • In summer 2016, the Walnut Creek Police Department will open a dedicated Shadelands police field office to be located near Shadelands Drive and Lennon Lane.
  • In summer 2016, an RFP was issued for a comprehensive plan to address Shadelands pedestrian and vehicular traffic flow, bus routes and bus stops; sidewalks and safety; walking, biking, and hiking paths; and way finding.

 

The PBID had been in the planning stage for three years, prompted by the leadership efforts of the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau, in partnership with the City of Walnut Creek, to set priorities for reviving the 40-year-old park. The ten-member Shadelands Steering Committee is a voluntary group of Shadelands property owners who have been appointed by the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau to manage the Shadelands PBID. They are committed to a collective and cooperative process of working together with the City of Walnut Creek to improve the business climate, amenities, aesthetics, and value of Shadelands, and to create a thriving business community that welcomes both the existing businesses and the surrounding community.

 

The Shadelands Steering Committee is a valuable and accessible resource for current and prospective businesses and business owners who are looking to fully participate in this revitalized, exciting business community.
