Shadelands Property And Improvement District, PBID

 

In August 2014, the Walnut Creek City Council approved the creation of the Shadelands Property and Business Improvement District (PBID), a unified group of Shadelands property owners who advocate for and direct the future of Shadelands to enhance opportunities for economic growth, job creation, and park rejuvenation.

 

• In February 2015, Shadelands launched the free Pleasant Hill BART shuttle, County Connection #7 (easily identified by the branded Shadelands bus wrap), which serves Shadelands commuters and neighborhood riders.
• In March 2016, the Walnut Creek City Council adopted major zoning amendments, proposed by the Shadelands Steering Committee, allowing greater zoning flexibility.
• In Summer 2016, the Walnut Creek Police Department opened a dedicated Shadelands police field office located near Shadelands Drive and Lennon Lane.
• In Summer 2018, the City of Walnut Creek and the Shadelands PBID initiated a comprehensive plan to improve getting into, out of, and around the 267-acre business center, focusing on vehicle entry and exit points, traffic flow, pedestrian and bicyclist routes and safety, and bus and shuttle routes and stop locations.
• In January 2019, the Walnut Creek City Council approved the Shadelands PBID for another ten years, allowing Shadelands to undertake ongoing long-term improvements to this Walnut Creek business and employment center.

 

The PBID had been in the planning stage for three years, prompted by the leadership efforts of the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau, in partnership with the City of Walnut Creek, to set priorities for reviving the 40-year-old park. The ten-member Shadelands Steering Committee is a voluntary group of Shadelands property owners who have been appointed by the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau to manage the Shadelands PBID. They are committed to a collective and cooperative process of working together with the City of Walnut Creek to improve the business climate, amenities, aesthetics, and value of Shadelands, and to create a thriving business community that welcomes both the existing businesses and the surrounding community.

 

The Shadelands Steering Committee is a valuable and accessible resource for current and prospective businesses and business owners who are looking to fully participate in this revitalized, exciting business community.
